virtual private networks
Virtual Private Networks (VPN) provide inter-site connectivity to deliver private data securely between business locations. This means that individuals, offices, shops and distribution centres can share data and resources between local and/or inter-state sites.
Running over iiNet's national Multi Protocol Label Switching ( MPLS ) network, users benefit from low setup and usage costs on high speed ADSL connections, without the requirement for additional software and hardware.
Since releasing AnnexM on VPN, upload speeds of up to 2.7Mbps are now available.
benefits
VPN can help businesses in the following ways:
- remote workers can access office networks from home
- software can be managed centrally for the rest of the network
- effective setup and maintenance for growing companies
- converged VoIP, video and application services

how it works
Using IP based MPLS technology, data is routed between sites in a quick and secure manner. To ensure reliable performance a premium class of service is attached to VPN prioritising it above regular traffic. This equates to lower latency, minimal variation and higher throughput. Business VPN provides security comparable to traditional private frame relay and ATM networks.
VPN services do not provide
internet
access by default. This is done to ensure private networks cannot be breached by unauthorised parties over the public internet. Internet can be provided by proxy via a DSL service at one of the VPN sites. Local routing will need to be configured by a qualified IT consultant and iiNet recommends the use of firewalls in these instances.
Our range of Business DSL plans are available separately for internet access. ADSL plan quotas will apply for all internet usage.
