Mail for Mac OS X 10.3/4 Setup
To open Mail click its icon in the Dock or browse to the Mail application location at Macintosh HD: Applications: Mail
1. Welcome Screen
If this is the first time you have setup Mail you will be prompted to setup a new Mail account. Do so now by following the screens below. If you have already setup an account in Mail once before and wish to setup a new iiNet email account, simply go to File: Add Account and follow the same procedure outlined below.
2. General Information
Mail will try to setup a ".Mac" account by default. You don't want this option at this stage as iiNet uses what's referred to as "POP" for email. Change to "POP" by opening the dropdown menu and selecting the "POP" option.
Next insert your iiNet email address and the name you want people to see your emails coming from. Click continue to progress to the next page.
3. Incoming Mail Server
At this point you'll need to have your account details handy. Enter the incoming mail server (mail.iinet.net.au), your iinet username (which should be the beginning of your email address) and password for the account or mailbox. Hit continue and Mail will attempt to verify your settings by logging in. If you are not connected to the Internet you will get an error, but don't worry about it at this stage.
4. Incoming Mail Security
Do not tick the box labelled use "Secure Sockets Layer" as this option is not necessaray with iiNet POP email. Ensure that "Password" is selected in the "Authentication" drop down box. Click continue.
5. Outgoing Mail Server
Enter your outgoing mail server details - all accounts with us should use mail.iinet.net.au. Authentication is not required so make sure it's unticked. Click continue.
6. Outgoing Mail Security
Once again we do not need to use Secure Sockets Layer, so make sure it's unticked. Click continue.
7. Account Summary
You will be presented with a final summary of the details you have entered to confirm they are correct. The following screen shows an example of correct details. Check all your details and if you're happy, click continue.
8. Conclusion
Super. You're almost done. To add another account click "Create Account" - this will go through the above process again. If you have finished click "Done".
Well done. You have now setup mail succesfully. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet before trying to send or receive emails.
