Raymond Burr loved quality wines, and had his own vineyard. The wine is now exclusively produced and bottled by Raymond Burr Cellars in Nthn. California. The 1998 vintage of the Raymond Burr Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is released. The new label is pictured below - bearing Raymond's signature.

THE VINEYARD

Raymond Burr knew where the best grapes were grown, and the finest wines produced. He chose Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley as the perfect site for growing exceptional red wine grapes. He selected cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc as the choice varieties to plant on the terraced hillsides of his farm. The vineyards were planted during the 1980's. Fruit from Raymond Burr Vineyards has been a component in Pedroncelli's "Three Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon" for several years. The Raymond Burr Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon premiered with the 1990 vintage. (So if you've got one, hang on to it, and definately don't throw the bottle out!)

THE WINE

RB Wine Label

1994 Cabernet Sauvignon

Arguably the top vintage of the decade, this full bodied, flavourful wine will gracefully augment any filet mignon or tomato-pasta dinner.

1995 Cabernet Sauvignon

Dry Creek Valley's glorious Indian Summer of 1995 allowed for the late harvest (October) of the vineyard's Cabernet Sauvignon - adding to the already sumptous depth of flavour a mature complexity. Nearly one year in American oak cooperage, this Proprietor's Reserve was bottled May 16, 1997.

1996 Cabernet Sauvignon

Marked by the imprint of Raymond Burr's taste and the clarity of his dream, the discerning talent he brought to his wines as to his acting, this seventh vintage bearing his name celebrates his generosity and amplitude; pays tribute to his imagination and joy in life. Cellared in American oak barrels for 13 months before being bottled on April 4, 1998.

1998 Cabernet Sauvignon

A later harvest than usual provided extra hang time and added intensity. The winemaker notes "Big and rich, showing concentrated layers of blackberry, plum and cherry, this classic red melds smooth tannins into a lingering finish". The wine aged 18 months in small oak cooperage.

1998 Chardonnay

Various elements have contributed to the rich texture of this golden wine; Raymond Burr's planting of dijon and wente clones on his well-drained, south-facing hillside and 1998's El Nino weather, which made for the most extended - and beneficial - "hang time" in recent memory. Coupled with winemaker John Quinones' meticulous attention to detail, maximum potential was extracted from the grape by barrel fermenting.

1999 Chardonnay

This clean, fresh Chardonnay was aged on the lees and is 100% barrel fermented. The winemaker notes "Weaving together notes of peach, citrus, honeysuckle, melon and delicate toast, this wine keeps focused through a long bright finish".
