Broomball USA

History of Broomball in the USA

Broomball started in Minnesota as far back as 1954, but didn't gain real popularity until 1961 when teams were formed and leagues organised. Minneapolis was the home of Duffy's, the original Broomball team in the state. The first organised leagues began in 1961 and with these leagues interest spread throughout the state. By 1964, the number of teams in the Minneapolis area had to be limited due to lack of facilities and team numbers from around the state showed a large increase. The USBA was formed in 1994, to oversite the development of Broomball in the USA.
