Who are we and what is tennis like in
suburban Melbourne?
Would you like to know a bit about our coaching?
Local Interest only, one presumes.
I also run a page for Sacred Heart, Kew. (And I'm a member at St John's Catholic club, Heidelberg.)
Tennis Victoria is offering to host web pages for tennis clubs.
The latest news is that the parish intends to close the club.
How long this will take is unknown, but we should still have the next seasons. After that we will have to decide where to go to continue. We could all go and join a single club, and build up its membership. This would make it likely that the local council would spend some money there. Or we could all go our separate ways.
We are in an unfortunate position for a few reasons.
Hardly any of our members are parishioners. and quite a few of our players in the men's night teams are not members. But also we are not physically attached to a school. This means we do not get the schoolchildren being coached and moving on to join the club. The main reason though is the drought. En tout cas courts were great in the past, but they are badly affected by lack of water.
We had a surprisingly good turnup to a meeting on February 22 at the club to discuss our future. Nothing was decided, but the committee have a better idea of what they are doing now.
Our latest intention is to close at the end of 2009. The parish will not be selling the courts off before then, because things take a while to happen. We are not running a junior team, as they are moving on, but out Saturday afternoon team will be finishing their season, and the night teams should be pretty much the same. The committee's intention is to pay a year's membership for any of our current members who want to go to another club. Let the committee know which club you would like to join. Limit $100.
Some stereo pictures.
I have a stereo camera, which I use occasionally. I have printed red-green versions of my last lot, so if you have a pair of red-green glasses lying around, you can browse through them here. Nothing to do with the tennis club, but I thought I'd throw them in! The ones on the last pages are quite big files, but I thought I would try them, and they uploaded!
The Restrictions....
Stage 3a is still currently running. Somewhat to our surprise, we can still water half our courts. You can water half your courts before each set, but not after! We should not have to water as often though.
